Parish Opportunities - 2016 - 2017

"We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern.”

 - Pope Francis, 9/16/13

Faithful Citizenship refers to the responsibility of each of us to have an informed conscience, and to use that informed conscience in making all of our decisions, including voting decisions.

This four-week session is an opportunity to explore this document written by the Bishops of the United States.

Our knowledge of God and the invitation to love Him can never be exhausted. Therefore, we are challenged to grow in both knowledge of and love for Him. For how long? For...the...rest...of...our...lives. Why? Jesus reminds us that we must love God above all else. We cannot love someone whom we do not know. Impossible. So, we must continue to bolster our faith through, among other means, seeking His wisdom and truth and living them.

The fullness of God the Father’s revelation to us is His Son, Our Lord Jesus. A key, indispensable part of His revelation is Sacred Scripture. On Tuesday, September 20, at 6:30 PM in Hagus Hall, we begin a journey through much of the Bible, seeking the story of salvation history that is woven through the 73 books of the Bible. The course is entitled, The Bible Timeline, the Story of Salvation. This class takes place on Tuesday evenings and it runs for 24 weeks.

There are no pass/fail exams in this course.   However, there are assignments, for example, reading parts of the Bible. As is the case with our faith, the more we put into these courses, the better fruit will they bear.

When:  Tuesdays: 6:30 – 8:30 PM, beginning September 20th, in Hagus Hall

Please call the Parish Office to sign up for this course, so that we know the number of workbooks we need to order.

Sin separates us from the love of God, but the cultivation of virtue can restore a right relationship with Him. This Lenten Season, take a  journey from sin to sanctity with Bishop Robert Barron's Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues.

Based on Dante's writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven stories of Dante's Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. Bishop Barron explains the nature of these sins and offers a corresponding virtue for each one, giving practical advice on how to instill this virtue in your own life.
