Tuesday
15 July
Early
Breakfast will be provided at your accommodation site
The
Opening Mass will be held at Barangaroo. Your allocation to an area within
Barangaroo will be handed to you on arrival at the venue. Please place the
Tuesday pass in the bottom pouch of your Pilgrim Passport. You will have
received a different allocation pass for Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and
Saturday/Sunday.

Lunch service commences at Barangaroo, the Domain (1.OOpm) and a range of
city sites until 2.3Opm (and 3.OOpm at the Domain) (see page 77 of your Pilgrim
Guide for locations, and page 43 for maps). Remember to organise yourself into a
group of six people, so one member of the group presents six meal tickets and
collects meals for a group of six. This helps make it a much quicker service for
all pilgrims.

transport services are limited after midnight, so plan your travel accordingly.

This afternoon, Sydney will welcome The Holy Father on the shores of
Sydney Harbour, before a formal welcome at BarangarOO and motorcade through the
city. The Papal Boat-a-cade commences at this time.
The Papal Arrival can be viewed from a number of sites including
BarangarOO,
Darling Harbour, Sydney Opera House, Domain, Mrs
Macquarie’S Chair, Farm Cove
and on the water as part of the official flotilla.
Please check your allocation pass for Thursday for your allocated
location.

Holy Father arrives at BarangarOO for the formal welcome.

Stations of
the Cross, the live re-enactment of
the last days of Jesus’ life is one of the highlights of the week. This event
occurs at St Mary’s Cathedral, the Domain, Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Darling Harbour
and Barangaroo. Please check your Friday allocation pass for which venue you
have been allocated.
You will have a
clear view of the entire event via the big screens, and at least one station
live at your venue. This is not a processional event and you need to remain at
your allocated venue for the entire re-enactment. If you leave your allocated
site you may not be able to return to your allocated venue.

Please remember
that the Pilgrimage Walk will occur on Saturday morning and it will be a very
early start to the day.
Saturday
19 July
Early
Breakfast and a lunch pack for you to take on the Pilgrimage Walk will be
provided at your accommodation site. Although you will receive a meal pack at
the site, you might like to bring some extra snacks. Please note that there are
limited shops along the walk after you pass
Darling Harbour. Concessions (snack food) will be
available at Randwick.
Make sure you
bring your sleeping bag, hat, warm jacket or sweater, raincoat and ground mat
for the sleep out after the Evening Vigil. Your Backpacks contain a lightweight
poncho and thermal blanket.
The earliest
time you can start the
Pilgrimage Walk
from North Sydney
is 5:30am. As a Group leader you will have the opportunity to select a time for
your group to walk across the harbour Bridge. This can be done through the World
Youth Day website www.wyd2008.org. Please arrive at
North Sydney station as close to this time as possible. If you plan
to ‘turn up’ you may find that transport is particularly heavy and your journey
may take longer than expected. Remember, your allocation passes for the event
guarantees you your assigned spot at RandwiCk.
The bridge will
start to close to pilgrims around 2pm. After that time you would be confined to
the pedestrian walkway and you may need to start your walk from Central Railway
instead. Please check page 24 of your Pilgrim Guide for more information and
maps.
The walk will
be well signposted —
follow the crowds through the streets of Sydney to Southern Cross
Precinct, Randwick Racecourse.
Please check your
Saturday/Sunday allocation pass for which gate, section and pod you have been
allocated within Randwick Racecourse. This will be your allocated area for the
Evening Vigil and Final Mass.
On your way into Randwick, use your 3-meal
pack voucher to collect your meal pack for Saturday evening, Sunday morning and
Sunday lunch.
The Southern Cross
Precinct, Randwick Racecourse and

Youth Festival commences at Randwick. Refreshments and
snacks may be purchased until the start of the Vigil.
2pm(apPrOX) Last pilgrim
leaves
North Sydney
as part of the Pilgrimage Walk.

Evening Vigil commences

Evening Vigil finishes, with prayerful reflection and adoration
continuing into the night.
Sunday
20 July

Today is World Youth Day!

Morning prayer commences from the main stage at
Randwick.

Papal flyover Southern Cross Precinct, followed by Papal motorcade.
10.OOam
Final Mass, celebrated by The Holy Father followed by the Angelus.

location and the invitation to the next WYD by the Holy Father.

Youth Festival event recommence.
Please note
that it will take several hours for everyone to leave the site, so please be
patient, and stay and enjoy the Youth Festival performances.

Monday
21 July
Early
Breakfast will be provided at your accommodation site. At the conclusion
of breakfast please pack up in preparation for leaving your accommodation.
